Haselbach, GERM being encounter — June 17, 1950

Oskar Linke and his daughter Gabriele reported an encounter near Haselbach in southern Thuringia, then East Germany, on June 17, 1950, at about 2:30 a.m. Their motorcycle had developed a flat tire, and they were continuing on foot when Gabriele noticed figures in a field. Linke approached and described two people in heavy shimmering garments bending toward the ground beside a large oval object. His account continued with their entry into the object, movement of a cylindrical section, rotation, colored light or flame from openings, and a rapid departure. A circular ground impression was reportedly noticed afterward. The story became public after the family left East Germany in 1952, which explains a frequent confusion between encounter and publication dates. Ted Bloecher's November 1980 MUFON review drew on press reports and Linke's later written testimony. The linked 1952 documentary includes Linke and Gabriele from about 5:22. The plate reconstructs the field observation without claiming to reproduce their likenesses or a measured craft design.
