Case description
The original Harmon Air Force Base incident differs substantially from its later entity-catalogue version. A USAF air-intelligence memorandum described seventeen-year-old Air Policeman Edward E. Wysong encountering an unidentified human silhouette between the runway area and the beach. Its time was 01:30 Z on September 2, 1950; translating that UTC notation into a local calendar date requires care.
Wysong approached, saw a flash and suffered an injury to his left ring finger. The memorandum described an apparently ordinary small-calibre bullet or slug, with no nearby powder burns. He returned fire, and a search found nobody. No flying object, nonhuman anatomy or disappearance into a vehicle was reported in this incident.
Later summaries, including the source chain discussed by Patrick Gross, omitted the conventional bullet and emphasized a shadowy man vanishing in a flash. The episode was consequently absorbed into close-encounter catalogues. A nearby-in-time radar report does not establish that the unidentified person was an extraterrestrial occupant. This record retains the historical event while correcting that inference. Its plate shows a nonviolent moment before the confrontation, with an airman and distant human silhouette only; adding an alien or saucer would manufacture details absent from the original report.
