Beausoleil, FR being encounter — 1951

In the summer of 1951, a woman, her husband and a policeman friend reportedly walked toward an outdoor theatrical performance in Beausoleil, Alpes-Maritimes. It was about 9 p.m., with daylight remaining. They noticed a transparent, egg-shaped object hovering above the small square near Rue des Martyrs. The theatre audience had its back to it. Approaching more closely, they said they could see two seated, humanlooking occupants. The nearer one was lean and appeared elderly, with a long white beard, light-coloured clothing and no head covering. He leaned forward as though watching the performance. The second figure was largely hidden behind him. The object was estimated at four to five metres long and seven or eight metres above the ground. When the witnesses called for the audience to look, the object reportedly departed rapidly behind the rooftops. Their observation lasted roughly twenty to twenty-five seconds. Investigators collected the surviving woman’s account in 1977, about twenty-six years later; the two men had died. That long reporting delay is central to the record. The detailed occupant description is an elderly humanlike figure, rather than the generic small Grey suggested by many modern illustrations.
