Case description
The Reading Eagle of August 26, 1952, reported an account from Herbert Long, a twenty-nine-year-old insurance salesman and wartime medical-corps veteran. The previous evening he had turned from the Allentown Pike onto a road toward Route 22 near Maxatawny. At about 7:30–7:45 he allegedly encountered a silent object hovering over a field, close to his car.
Long compared its form to a covered serving tray, approximately twenty-five feet wide, hovering about fifteen feet above the ground. He described windows around the raised upper section and an antenna on top. Light and apparent movement could be seen inside, but the contemporary report does not establish a clearly observed alien face or body. After several minutes, the object rose slowly and then accelerated away with a rushing sound and a dark trail. Long said he inspected the field afterward without finding a trace.
He reportedly remained shaken the next day and told colleagues before the newspaper interviewed him. This contemporary account differs from the imported catalogue’s shorthand: it concerns one motorist, not three observers, and gives an earlier evening time rather than 22:00. The reconstruction follows the newspaper’s single-witness sequence and keeps the interior forms unresolved.
