Case description
An anonymous man reportedly saw a luminous spherical object resting in a harvested wheatfield at Galfingue, Haut-Rhin, during August 1954. Small figures were nearby, apparently occupied with something around it. The man became frightened and ran away instead of remaining to investigate. Later summaries, including Hatch, specify two figures.
The surviving early note offers little beyond that sequence. It does not supply a precise day, a reliable observation duration, the sphere’s dimensions, the beings’ clothing or any facial features. Nor does it describe the object’s arrival or departure. Describing the figures as small humanoids is therefore more supportable than assigning them the large eyes or distinctive heads associated with later alien imagery. A variant involving a stalled car and approaching beings is not supported by the archival note.
The source trail runs through LDLN files, Alain Gamard, Raoul Robé and Jean Sider. A subsequently surfaced archive card by Mrs Gueudelot identifies an Alsatian correspondent, Mr Nueffer, as the person who heard the story. Christian Valentin’s brief local enquiries in 2006 found no confirmation. The archival attribution helps trace the report’s circulation, while leaving the anonymous witness’s experience uncorroborated.
