Case description

In August 1954, thirteen-year-old Gabriel Coupal and another boy reportedly encountered a luminous sphere while riding a horse near their Hemmingford farm. The August 7 catalogue version gives about 7:30 p.m., a nine-foot object landing roughly 150 feet away, and a change from luminosity to a dark appearance after landing. A tall man with large round eyes allegedly emerged, dressed in a black rubber-like suit except for his head and carrying an object compared to a machine gun. The boys fled toward the house on their horse. The sphere reportedly rose, passed nearby and settled again near the barn; a hanging cable and square attachment were described. Later observations included a bubble-like appearance, three figures near the object, and an orange-glowing departure when additional witnesses arrived. Dr. Adolph Dittmar’s account and an August 1954 Gleaner report underlie the catalogue trail. Other summaries use August 10 and 9:30 p.m., and trace diameters range from about thirty feet to fifteen metres. Those versions may overlap and should not be silently merged into a precise chronology. Flattened vegetation was reported, but its connection to a vehicle was not independently established in the consulted material. The reconstruction combines family observations and avoids depicting children being chased.
