Case description
The Feurs entry circulated in later UFO catalogues as an encounter during the night of 15–16 September 1954. In that version, people from Saint-Étienne were stranded by a car breakdown on a secondary road in the Forez plain. A mysterious object landed nearby, and a small being ran away when two witnesses attempted to approach. A nearby farmer's buzzing sound and excited dog were also added to the account.
A much more revealing source is the front page of Le Charollais-Dimanche for 19 September 1954. It advertises an extraordinary story about four Saint-Étienne residents meeting a Martian resembling Hitler who emerged from a red, egg-shaped object. The accompanying caricature and comic presentation identify this as a journalistic parody, rather than straightforward corroboration of an encounter.
Later summaries dropped that context, retained the car failure and departing figure, and sometimes classified the story as an electromagnetic-effect case. The surviving newspaper evidence does not establish that a craft disabled a vehicle or that an extraterrestrial being appeared. This record is retained as a satirical press story that entered UFO catalogues. Its plate explicitly illustrates the parody, including the red egg and caricatured visitor; it is not a reconstruction of a substantiated physical event.
