Chabeuil, FR being encounter — September 26, 1954

Mrs. Leboeuf’s Chabeuil report emerged during the French wave of autumn 1954. While gathering berries or mushrooms near a lane and maize field close to the cemetery, she heard her dog Dolly barking and then howling. She noticed what initially resembled a small scarecrow and approached before recognizing a figure about one metre tall. Early accounts describe a humanlike face within a translucent, plastic or cellophane-like diving suit, including a transparent head covering. Some versions emphasize fixed, shining eyes and an awkward or hopping approach. Frightened, she withdrew behind a hedge. She subsequently heard a sound and saw a flattened circular object rise from beyond the field and trees, tilt and accelerate away. Her husband and other nearby people responded to the commotion rather than independently seeing every part of the encounter. Investigators and newspapers reported crushed vegetation, broken acacia branches and an approximately circular disturbed area. These are historical trace observations, not proof of a spacecraft. September 26 is the usual catalogue date, while an Ouranos investigation heading gives September 28; the image uses the month. France-Dimanche’s October 10 report is particularly useful for the early suit description. It does not justify replacing the witness’s “human face in a transparent covering” with a modern gray-alien stereotype.
