Case description
Le Dauphiné Libéré of October 8, 1954 reported that a twelve-year-old girl named Manigand had seen a flying saucer near Dommartin the previous morning. The place was in the Bresse area of Ain, near Montrevel; an Oise attribution in later indexing is a geographical error. The original report places the episode around 7 a.m. while the girl was walking alone from Marsily to a catechism lesson.
She reportedly saw an object pass low and close overhead. Two strange beings carrying what she described as long knives came out, then left without touching the ground. The newspaper does not supply a usable description of their faces, clothing or anatomy. It reports no attack, physical contact or injury. Frightened and crying, the girl reached her lesson, where her teacher, Mlle Puvilland, tried to calm her.
The teacher's observation concerns the child's distress after the claimed event, not an independent sighting of the object or figures. The newspaper raised imagination as a possible explanation, and later cataloguers treated the case cautiously; neither reaction by itself establishes what happened. The plate preserves the child as the sole observer and places the unresolved figures and their lowered implements at a distance. Their silhouettes and the craft's shape are contextual approximations rather than recovered visual details.
