Case description
On October 4,1954, a girl cycling home after enclosing cattle near Villers-le-Tilleul noticed something in a clearing beside her route. She first thought it was a tent. In the gendarmerie account, she described an oval body roughly three metres high, with a rounded conical top and rectangular base.
A hatch lifted upward and a person jumped out, closing it behind him. The girl's description gave a normal-sized human figure, a square head outline, piercing eyes and hairy red-brown clothing. She fled by bicycle when it approached, watching no departure.
A neighboring woman separately reported a sustained mechanical noise. The girl's father and another farmer described disturbed grass that evening, although gendarmes inspecting the site later found nothing. Other versions added or altered details, including a small being, an upper hatch and a separate departure observation by Antoine Barrois.
Those variants should not replace the contemporary statement. The square head outline does not establish a particular alien species, and later confirmation of the story does not remove its discrepancies. Helicopter explanations have been proposed by subsequent researchers, but they remain interpretations. The child herself reported an unusual grounded object and a figure, not a watched flight or a journey aboard it.
