Case description
A rural postman near Huy, between Namur and Liège, was the witness in a short Belgian report circulated during the October 1954 European sighting wave. The contemporary newspaper La Croix carried the item on 12 October. The catalogue later assigns 9 October at approximately 13:00, but the located press paragraph does not itself establish that exact event date or hour. It gives neither the postman's name nor the precise village.
The newspaper describes what the witness called a flying cigar, initially high in the sky. As the object came nearer, he reportedly made out two shapes aboard it, approximately human in outline. That is the extent of its entity description: no facial features, height, clothing, conversation or descent by the figures is supplied. The brief account does not document a landing or anyone leaving the object, despite the landing language in the compressed Hatch entry.
The difference affects the reconstruction of the case. A cigar with indistinct silhouettes aloft follows the contemporary report more closely than an ovoid resting beside the witness. The clipping is evidence that the story was published, rather than independent confirmation of the object's nature. Without a direct witness statement, measured distance, image or follow-up investigation in the retrieved material, the two supposed occupants remain the postman's interpretation of shapes inside an unidentified object.
