Case description
Marius Dewilde reported a second encounter near his Quarouble home on 10 October 1954, a month after his better-known September claim. Contemporary Nord-Matin coverage says it occurred in daylight, with an object again on the railway and small occupants speaking an unfamiliar language. It also reports marks on the sleepers and Dewilde's reluctance to receive further publicity.
Later expanded accounts place the time between 11:30 and noon. His young son Serge allegedly alerted him to a car on the tracks. Dewilde approached carrying the boy and described a domed disc with a rectangular opening and portholes. Five short, human-looking figures were outside or on its rim, while two more were visible inside. They wore flexible dark-grey suits and transparent face panels. A leader, estimated around 1.10 metres tall, had a tanned face, strong jaw, dark hair and ordinary brown eyes.
The expanded story adds friendly gestures, a hen being taken aboard and the occupants helping one another through the opening before departure. The source variants disagree about noise, heat, smoke, time and details of the marks. These later particulars should remain distinct from the much briefer contemporary press report.
Hatch's statement that Dewilde refused to report the event is also narrower than the newspaper's claim that he confided in authorities. The October account is not independent confirmation of September. The plate follows the later seven-occupant version and shows father and child safely observing, without depicting an animal capture or an invented medical scene.
