Case description
Yvonne, a thirty-three-year-old mill worker whose surname was withheld, said she encountered a luminous object while walking to work across fields at Vernosc-lès-Annonay on October 12, 1954, around 6:20 a.m. The detailed account comes through a 1974 investigation and newspaper article, roughly twenty years after the reported event, later used by Figuet and Ruchon.
She described a changing-colour light descending into a brilliant white sphere, hovering about half a metre above a field sixty to seventy metres away. As if through a translucent surface, she discerned two suited, humanlike silhouettes of unequal height. The object reportedly departed and returned repeatedly; on a return one figure’s arms appeared extended. She eventually hid behind bushes, then reached the mill distressed.
Later descriptions also associate recurring nail problems with the encounter. No contemporaneous medical documentation establishing that causal link is presented in the accessible source comparison. The long reporting interval limits reconstruction of the original observation. The plate follows the luminous-sphere description rather than turning the object into a conventional metal saucer, and leaves both occupants’ facial details unresolved.
