Case description
The Châtellerault entry traces to Harold T. Wilkins’s summary of the French 1954 wave. He described apparently ordinary people approaching witnesses, embracing them and speaking unintelligibly before entering small cigar-shaped objects. Later catalogues attached an October 13 date and treated Châtellerault as a distinct encounter.
The documentary problem is that Wilkins discussed Châtellerault together with Bugeat. Patrick Gross’s comparison identifies Bugeat as the better-known Mouriéras account involving Antoine Mazaud, while suggesting that the Châtellerault reference may have arisen from the nearby Cenon–Vouneuil case. That proposed connection is an interpretation of the catalogue history, not a recovered witness statement establishing a new event.
Subsequent authors altered numbers of witnesses and visitors, while repeatedly referring back to the same compressed narrative. No securely identified Châtellerault witness, independently preserved interview or contemporary local investigation accompanies this entry in the consulted material. The reported conversation and departure remain part of Wilkins’s account, but the exact date, location and independence of the incident are unresolved. Its illustration therefore represents the disputed catalogue description rather than a documented scene.
