Case description
On the evening of 13 October 1954, agricultural-machinery salesman Sadi Lévy reportedly stopped near the Montimont brickyard while returning from Vrigne-aux-Bois toward Sedan. According to L’Ardennais, his car’s engine failed and its headlights revealed two small phosphorescent-green forms with large eyes and tails. The figures disappeared, after which the car could run again. No craft was described in that newspaper account.
Lévy reached the Croix de Malte café visibly distressed and told acquaintances what had happened. The owners and staff could attest to his agitation afterward, rather than independently witnessing the roadside beings. The newspaper said the gendarmerie opened an inquiry, while expressing its own reservations about the story. The reported disappearance and restoration of the engine do not demonstrate how the failure occurred or whether it restarted unaided.
Hatch’s condensed entry differs in two important respects, giving three figures and a truck. The earlier newspaper describes two figures and a traction car, normally understood as a Citroën Traction-type vehicle. Later commentators have suggested ordinary misidentification, including cattle illuminated at night, but the material reviewed does not establish that explanation conclusively. The illustration follows the contemporary two-figure version, preserves the unusual tails and glow, and excludes an undocumented spaceship. The entities should not be silently recast as conventional noseless grey beings.
