Case description
A married couple travelling from Saintes toward Royan reportedly watched a peculiar aerial display around 9 p.m. in October 1954. Contemporary newspapers give variants of the name Labassière or Labestière; later researchers favour Labussière. They described two luminous forms, one orange and one red, connected by a brilliant green bar. Their swaying motion suggested the pans of a balance.
The couple said the formation stopped above nearby countryside. The connecting light disappeared and the two objects descended separately into a field. Small beings emerged, walked toward each other, crossed without stopping and entered the opposite objects. After this apparent exchange, the objects accelerated away, with some newspaper versions describing a dazzling flash and reunion of the pair.
The report appeared in L'Aurore, France-Soir and Paris-Presse and was repeated by Aimé Michel, Jimmy Guieu and later catalogues. Michel said other motorists saw the aerial display but not the activity on the ground. Those motorists therefore cannot be treated as independent corroboration of the alleged occupants.
Early wording sometimes gives two beings from each globe, while later versions give two in total. The date is commonly 18 October, although Guieu used 19 October. No detailed anatomy, clothing or exact dimensions are consistently preserved. The plate follows the two-occupant version, shows the exchange after the green connection faded, and uses month-level dating so that conflicting details are not silently resolved.
