Case description
HUMCAT preserves a short report from Adelmo Monti, a farmer at Modigliana in the Forlì area of Italy, on November 1, 1954. At about 15:30 he allegedly saw a dark object hovering close to the ground, roughly five hundred metres away. Small cylindrical features appeared around it. On one side he could make out the silhouette of a small being.
The report’s defining limitation is the viewing distance. Neither HUMCAT’s brief account nor the later catalogue summary provides a clear face, clothing, bodily proportions, conversation, or a described boarding sequence. A later version gives an apparent diameter of about one metre, but the distance and scale were estimates. The observer’s identification of a small figure remains an interpretation of an indistinct distant shape.
HUMCAT cites F. Izzo’s Italian close-encounter catalogue, drawing on Il Resto del Carlino; later compilations cite Maurizio Verga’s ITACAT. The imported shorthand itself raises the possibility of an ordinary stranded vehicle. That possibility is not a documented solution, but it underscores the report’s ambiguity. The reconstruction uses a distant dark object and an unresolved adjacent silhouette, rather than turning the observation into a close view of a fully described alien craft and occupant.
