Case description
Pietro Alberini and Pericle Sacchi, two students hunting near Cremona,Italy, said they encountered a small figure on November2,1954. Vallée’s Magonia catalogue and HUMCAT preserved their story. The usual catalogue time is6p.m., although other summaries vary. The central correction is that Sacchi later acknowledged a hoax, rather than the encounter remaining an unqualified unexplained case.
The original claim concerned a roughly one-metre dwarf with a rubber-like head or helmet and a flexible tube connecting its face to a cylindrical container on its back. As the hunters approached, the figure was said to envelop itself in a blue cloud, causing them to flee. No spacecraft was part of that story. Later elaborations of its equipment or appearance should not be mistaken for a surviving physical object.
HUMCAT’s addendum cites investigator Francesco Izzo and Sacchi’s July30,1976 letter acknowledging fabrication. The letter itself was not separately recovered here, but the catalogue explicitly records it and the case’s changed status. The plate therefore bears a prominent hoax label while illustrating the two hunters and the claimed figure. Clothing, countryside and cloud effects are visual interpretations of the story, with no implication that the pictured scene actually occurred.
