El Chocón 02 light

Official source account — 2017 annual report, printed page 9: An El Chocón witness filmed a strongly flashing light low over the horizon on 31 December 2016 and said it took about twenty minutes to disappear. CEFAE matched the viewing direction and time to Venus, which was setting at approximately 23:38. The agency attributed the apparent flashes to atmospheric scintillation at low elevation. Its interpretation used the witness's observing position and map as well as the video. The summaries distinguish reported observations from the agency’s proposed explanations. Source Type A/B ratings describe explanatory confidence and are not encounter classes. The map uses an approximate GeoNames locality centroid, not the observation point.
