Official source account — 2023 annual report, printed page 29: A landscape photographer at San Martín de los Andes discovered an apparent object only later, when selecting the photograph for a picture. CIAE examined a spindle-shaped body, a small pointed projection and two V-shaped appendages aligned with the body. The recorded exposure was 1/639 second. The report considered the image compatible with a bird briefly captured with folded wings, probably a swift of the genus Apus. This was an inferred explanation of a fleeting photograph, rather than a confirmed species identification or a separately witnessed unusual flight.
The summaries distinguish reported observations from the agency’s proposed explanations. Source Type A/B ratings describe explanatory confidence and are not encounter classes. The map uses an approximate GeoNames locality centroid, not the observation point.
