CIAE compared the position with IDSat and Orbitron calculations. These placed the inactive Nahuel 1A satellite closest to the flash, above geostationary altitude. Previous observers had reported that satellite flaring. The agency identified a reflected satellite flash, noting that the time-lapse compressed its actual duration.
