Case description
Before dawn on 25 August 1968, sanatorium attendant Maria José Cintra reported hearing a sound like a car braking on gravel at Lins, São Paulo. Looking through a window, she saw a woman at the entrance. In the archived account, the visitor did not answer her attempts at conversation but offered an empty bottle. Cintra inferred that she wanted water and accompanied her to the drinking fountain.
After filling the bottle, she filled a small cup, which the visitor drank. Back at the exit, the woman reportedly tapped Cintra's shoulder and repeated a word transcribed as “Umbaura” three times. She then went toward an unidentified object, which departed with great luminosity. The brief form says army officers and the sanatorium director later observed footprints at the entrance. They are later observers of traces, not automatically witnesses to the visitor.
Expanded accounts describe an apparently ordinary fair-skinned woman about 1.60 metres tall, wearing a shining pale-blue cape, a high-necked long-sleeved dress and a cap. They add a low-hovering pear-shaped object and a circular grass mark, details beyond the brief typed narrative. The available sketch is only partly visible, and hospital names and the repeated word vary across retellings. Institutional custody establishes the account's provenance, not the visitor's origin or the cause of any trace. The plate labels its water-exchange and departure composite and follows the humanlike description without substituting generic alien anatomy.
