Case description

In May 1969, Brazilian newspapers reported an extraordinary account attributed to José Antônio da Silva, a soldier serving with a Batalhão de Guardas. The surviving archival summaries say that he claimed to have travelled aboard a flying disc and remained away for approximately forty-eight hours. According to the articles, the craft was occupied by three short beings of broadly human appearance whose skin or overall coloration was described as yellowish. The accessible summaries do not preserve a careful anatomical description, named destination, sequence of boarding, detailed cabin layout or independently recorded dialogue. Those gaps matter: later illustrations should not transform the three figures into standardized gray aliens or invent machinery and procedures absent from the source. José Antônio reportedly described the experience as a journey through the cosmos. The newspaper material does not establish whether the entire forty-eight-hour interval was consciously remembered, reconstructed later or inferred from his absence. It also does not supply a verifiable flight path, astronomical observation or physical sample. By the time the story reached the press, the soldier was said to be held at an undisclosed location while a multidisciplinary group of physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists and other specialists evaluated him. A psychologist and longtime UFO researcher identified in the parallel summaries as Hélvio or Múlvio Brant Aleixo was reported to have met the soldier but declined to announce conclusions while testing was incomplete. A second clipping dated May 21 carried the headline SUMIU PM DO DISCO and said José Antônio's whereabouts were unknown while tests continued. Colleagues reportedly defended him as neither insane nor dishonest. Those statements describe their opinion of his character; they are not a medical result and do not establish an extraterrestrial journey. The two preserved clippings entered Brazil's national archival system under references ARX.0.0.72 and ARX.0.0.105. That chain is valuable evidence that the claim was publicly reported and administratively retained in 1969. The records are same-event sources, however, and their repetition does not become independent corroboration. The original pages were not locally available for a fresh line-by-line translation during this pass, so the Atlas retains the Portuguese mirror summaries and flags their limits. The accessible record does not provide the final findings of the examinations, an authenticated interview transcript, photographs from the alleged journey or independent witnesses to boarding and return. The Atlas classifies the case CE4 because it centers on reported transport and an onboard interval, while leaving the nature of the experience unresolved. The portrait presents a restrained symbolic reconstruction of the claimed onboard contact: José Antônio in a period Brazilian guard uniform facing exactly three short, calm, yellow-toned humanlike figures in a simple curved interior. Because the articles do not describe the cabin, that setting is deliberately generic. The image is an illustrative reconstruction, not a photograph or evidence of the journey.
