Guarulhos — LATAM captain reports lights and associated turbulence
Guarulhos, São Paulo, Brazil
Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
At about 20:00 on 1 September 2025, a LATAM captain reported two or three intensely luminous balls in the Guarulhos area. Under a clear, starry sky described as CAVOK, the lights appeared white, red and yellow. Their movements varied and were compared to an irregular dance. Their apparent distance changed: sometimes near, but mostly far away. The reported observation lasted 30–45 minutes. No sound was heard. The captain also attributed three episodes of dry turbulence, lasting about half an hour in total, to the phenomenon. An email from CINDACTA I relayed the report to COMAE that evening. The record identifies a 52-year-old captain but redacts the name and contact details. It states that no recordings exist. The filing documents the captain’s attribution of turbulence; it does not establish causation, an object identification or an independent investigation result.
