1968-12-29 — Pan American 707 approaching Sydney, Australia

A book review recounts a Pan American Boeing 707 crew and passengers seeing what they believed was the returning Apollo 8 capsule. Marcum described a separate red-and-yellow object flying beneath it, which quickly disappeared without a trail. The printed date is 29 December; no attempt is made to silently correct a potential mismatch with actual mission chronology.
