Case description

Henri Buch’s investigation for Ouranos, published in its fourth-quarter 1954 issue, gives a more precise Hennezis account than later catalogue summaries. Claude Lansselin, ten, and Françoise, nine, were returning from catechism around 6:30 p.m. on October 7. It was overcast and becoming dark; their father was a gamekeeper living in the woods. Claude noticed a red egg-like form beyond a rolled field and approached within roughly one hundred metres, leaving his sister nearer the path. The recovered interview clarifies a red dome above a black lid-like circular body, whose underside was hidden by a depression. Two ordinary-height men in black clothing appeared to descend beside it. No spacesuits, speech, landing or departure were observed. Darkness made facial details indistinct, and whether the red colour was intrinsic or reflected sunset light remained uncertain. The children fled; a return with their father produced no traces. Later skeptical writers said they could not locate the witnesses, which does not itself demonstrate fabrication. The plate includes both children, two humanlike men and the visible craft assembly, with its concealed underside preserved. Likenesses and setting are illustrative; the often-repeated 8 p.m. time is secondary.
