Case description
The contemporary newspaper account reproduced in the Jonches source dossier separates two observations on October 2, 1954. Around 6:45–7 p.m., Robert Cuffaut was driving his tractor at Croix-aux-Moines between Jonches and Égriselles. He noticed two people several hundred metres away, in very pale clothing, looking toward him and the Auxerre airfield beyond.
The figures remained while he made several circuits, then disappeared behind a hedge. They were not described with alien facial features or seen entering a vehicle. Cuffaut continued working. At precisely 8:45 p.m., he saw a fast ember-red object pass from their earlier direction toward Ligny-le-Châtel. It vanished within four or five seconds. His impression of a four-to-five-metre length was an estimate; tractor noise prevented a firm claim about its sound.
Local residents reportedly found no ground traces. Later catalogue compression made the people and aerial light seem like a single landing encounter, but their connection is unestablished. The plate explicitly separates the earlier figures from the later object by two hours. It uses ordinary human silhouettes and an unresolved aerial light; appearance, machinery and field layout remain illustrative rather than a witness-approved drawing.
