Case description
The Jussey story is usually dated October 1, 1954, at about 7 p.m. Two unnamed young men allegedly saw a luminous white disc descend into a pasture near the Haute-Saône village. Later writers cite Le Comtois of October 5, but a directly examined copy of that original article was not recovered for this enrichment. One early catalogue table instead gives October 4.
In the repeated account, two very tall men dressed in white emerged and made gestures interpreted as an invitation to approach. The witnesses became frightened and fled. Some versions add the object’s departure shortly afterwards. No speech, detailed facial anatomy, named witness statement, physical trace or witness-approved drawing is established in the recovered material. A plate can show the reported people and complete disc, but cannot supply those missing particulars.
A formerly repeated hoax verdict requires caution. Patrick Gross’s updated source audit found no mention of Jussey in the Vallée letter cited to support that verdict, and changed his assessment to insufficient documentation. That does not validate the encounter; the alleged decisive debunking citation remains unsubstantiated. The plate is labelled poorly documented, with ordinary humanlike figures and an illustrative luminous disc rather than generic aliens.
