Case description
Two young people near Jussey reportedly saw a brilliant white disc descend into a pasture on the evening of October 1,1954. In the familiar catalogue version, two very tall figures dressed in white emerged and gestured toward them. The witnesses became frightened and fled. A fuller later retelling adds that the object departed shortly afterward.
No reliable names, detailed faces or conversation transcript accompanies the account. Gestures were interpreted as an invitation to approach; they do not establish spoken communication or a control device. Seven o'clock is the usual catalogue time, while an early Vallée table gives a different October date.
Brief catalogues and later books repeated the story. Jean Sider eventually identified a contemporary reference in Le Comtois of October 5,1954. That citation is useful provenance, but repeated summaries are not independent witnesses.
The inherited Atlas reconstruction said that Vallée had learned the case was a hoax. That assertion was repeated by Loren Gross, citing a 1964 Flying Saucer Review issue. Patrick Gross subsequently checked the issue and reported that Vallée did not discuss Jussey there. The alleged hoax finding is therefore disputed, rather than a documented confession. Sparse documentation also prevents treating the original encounter as established fact.
