Les Egots — Janine Séon report, October 24, 1954

H. Meilland's report in La Dépêche–La Liberté of 28 October 1954 places ten-year-old Janine Séon in a pasture at Les Egots near Sainte-Catherine-sous-Riverie on the preceding Sunday, 24 October, around 5:30 p.m. She said a white oval descended behind a slope. Approaching with two dogs, she saw a larger-than-bin object with windows; the dogs reportedly ran away. A figure slightly taller than her approached with stiff-legged movements and abrupt gestures. She described red clothes that looked like iron, long hair, a hairy face and eyes compared with a cow's. It spoke unintelligibly, displayed something green on its palm and touched her shoulder. The figure entered a door at the end of the object, which rotated and rose with a sound compared with a sewing machine and coloured lights. Her aunt described Janine returning pale and distressed. Later accounts change the date or add a second figure. A later hoax allegation was disputed by subsequent family inquiries, while a helicopter interpretation remains a proposal rather than a demonstrated identification. The original French clipping gives 17:30; one English transcription mistakenly says 19:30. The plate follows the early single-figure account, with portraits, clothing details, green object and precise craft construction explicitly illustrative.
