Case description

The Prémanon story concerns the Romand family's isolated farm on 27 September 1954, around 20:30, during heavy rain. A contemporary gendarmerie report records separate statements from twelve-year-old Raymond and two younger girls. Raymond described an aluminium-coloured rectangular form about 2 metres high and 1 metre wide, split vertically near the bottom, with outward-angled supports. It reportedly glided toward him after the dog began barking. He said thrown stones and a toy arrow produced metallic sounds, and that approaching or touching the form brought a cold sensation or force that knocked him down. Janine reported seeing it withdraw. The children then noticed a large luminous ball in a meadow some 120–150 metres away. Officials later recorded flattened vegetation and holes or marks, although these observations did not independently establish the children's proposed cause. The later reporting history materially changes the case. Investigators Claude Comte and André Rosset recorded an attributed hoax admission by Raymond on 14 November 1954. Yves Bosson recovered that report and conducted further interviews; the meadow traces were associated with an older structure. The plate therefore labels a reconstruction of the original claim and a phase composite, with the later hoax finding visible. It does not turn the rectangular form into a detailed alien body.

The French UFO Wave of 1954: The Humanoids

Watch video · Preston Dennett

This retells the original Romand claim and omits Raymond’s November 1954 denial to Cosmos investigators. Bosson and Rospars’s later investigation describes a story amplified through adult questioning and reporting, rather than a demonstrated alien encounter or a deliberately organized hoax. Film names Janine Romand and Raymond and uses September 27; preserve Atlas qualifications about separate children’s statements and contradictory details. The film says the children never varied their story; the dossier preserves the later hoax admission.
