Case description

The Prémanon story arose from the Romand children at an isolated farm in the French Jura on September 27, 1954. Raymond, twelve, described an aluminium-coloured rectangular form outside the barn. He said that stones and a toy arrow struck it and that an intense cold or force knocked him down when he approached. His sister reported seeing it move away, and a younger child pointed out a luminous form in a meadow. Gendarmes examined the site and recorded reported marks. Contemporary newspapers treated the children's story seriously, but investigation and recorded marks did not establish an extraordinary object. The imported time of 8:50 p.m. differs from the more usual 8:30 p.m. Yves Bosson later traced a hoax confession made to Cosmos investigators Claude Comte and André Rosset in November 1954 and revisited the witnesses and local context. The Atlas preserves that qualification alongside the original report. Its plate reconstructs the children and reported rectangular form together, visibly labelled with the later hoax finding. No separate alien or spacecraft is invented from that ambiguous form.

The French UFO Wave of 1954: The Humanoids

Watch video · Preston Dennett

This retells the original Romand claim and omits Raymond’s November 1954 denial to Cosmos investigators. Bosson and Rospars’s later investigation describes a story amplified through adult questioning and reporting, rather than a demonstrated alien encounter or a deliberately organized hoax. Film names Janine Romand and Raymond and uses September 27; preserve Atlas qualifications about separate children’s statements and contradictory details. The film says the children never varied their story; the dossier preserves the later hoax admission.
