Case description
Two women, identified in later humanoid catalogues as Helen Sugiyama and Chiz Satow, reportedly watched a large object at a construction area on Post Street in San Francisco on March 31, 1966. Vallée’s landing catalogue gives approximately 6:00 a.m.; HUMCAT-derived accounts place the observation at 6:30 a.m. The encounter was therefore reported in the early morning, rather than at night.
The object was described as roughly sixty feet long, with windows, antennae, a pulsating bluish light on its upper section and an orange light underneath. The women could apparently see silhouettes moving inside three visible windows. As the object rose, one silhouette made a movement that looked like a wave. The description does not establish the occupants’ faces, clothing, exact number or nonhuman anatomy.
Vallée’s entry cites Robert Gribble’s June 1966 reporting, while the Atlas’s Hatch record cites Brad Steiger and Joan Whritenour’s 1967 book. The accessible accounts preserve a short sequence but no detailed interview transcript, photograph, instrument record or securely identified construction-site address. The reported gesture is an interpretation of movement through a window, not evidence of a conversation or contact on the ground. The plate consequently keeps the occupants indistinct and places them inside the craft.
