Case description
During spring 1967, a Haverhill woman identified only as Mrs.S. reportedly heard a loud whirring around 2 a.m. and woke her husband. He went outside and described a metallic object hovering above a nearby pond. HUMCAT estimates its diameter at fifty feet and its height above the water at twenty-five feet.
It resembled two saucers joined face to face, with a clear, bubblelike canopy near the upper rim. Orange flame appeared to issue from elongated openings around the edge. Through greenish interior light, the man saw silhouettes of two heads, unusually compared to lobster claws. This is a description of head shapes, not a report of clearly seen bodies or hands.
He approached while calling and waving. The object first moved away slowly, then spun with a louder whirring, tilted and departed rapidly. A burned-match smell reportedly lingered. The narrative does not supply an instrumental chemical identification or a measured electromagnetic effect.
Raymond Fowler investigated for NICAP; HUMCAT cites his special report. The imported abstract's airstrip setting differs from the pond in that fuller summary. No exact day or month is established, and the confidential witness names should remain confidential. The strange silhouettes cannot securely be assigned a biological species.
