Case description
Leonard Stringfield's notice in MUFON UFO Journal 110 describes an anonymous businessman reporting an experience while driving through Clarksville, Tennessee, on 27 January 1977. He allegedly saw partly visible entities communicating telepathically and later flew to Washington to report the event. Stringfield emphasized the man's reluctance to give full details by telephone. Crucially, the same page's hypnosis-derived room and robot account concerns a different witness near Prospect, Kentucky, and must not be transferred to Clarksville.
A likely related contemporary report names forty-eight-year-old farmer Donald Fender. Ron Taylor's 2 February Leaf-Chronicle article says Fender felt compelled to leave the highway about fifteen miles from Clarksville at approximately 14:30. He found a small egg-like object compared with a silky balloon or parachute and said beings emerged, identifying themselves as peaceful emissaries. Their purported explanation involved a narrow travel corridor near Clarksville, a first test visit and a promise to return. The account lasted about fifteen minutes by Fender's estimate.
Taylor explicitly questioned the itinerary: Fender placed himself west of Nashville while claiming a journey between places east of it, and declined to explain the detour. Fort Campbell reported no corresponding air-control UFO observation. The newspaper described a proposed Washington trip; Stringfield said his anonymous witness had already gone. Date and subject suggest a connection, but identity is not established by those notices alone. Neither recovered passage establishes a completed abduction. The illustration labels its synthesis of the probably related accounts and leaves the beings' unreported facial anatomy indistinct.
This essay compares the anonymous Clarksville report with Donald Fender’s newspaper account. Their connection remains uncertain; the same-day Prospect abduction is a separate case.
