Case description
The Draguignan narrative has several phases. Around 8:30 p.m. on October 19, 1973, Gabriel Demogue and his girlfriend reportedly saw an orange-yellow ball near Le Malmont while riding a motorcycle. He took her home. Four young men subsequently returned in a Renault 8 and Fiat 128 to investigate, finding a diffuse white glow near the summit, unusual modulated sounds and a sensation of heat.
At the lookout, a large silhouette carrying a waist-level red light approached down a stony track. During the retreat, Alain Leca and his passenger reportedly saw three figures following their Renault. In reversing lights, Leca described beings over two metres tall in red one-piece suits, square heads or helmets with luminous rectangular eye openings, and, on one, a gas-mask-like covering and veil. Their gait appeared mechanical.
The Fiat's occupants reported fleeting red legs crossing the road, headlights and dashboard illumination failing, and a later sideways displacement followed by the car returning to its course. The original investigator questioned whether the engine itself had stopped; the driver believed it continued running. The source also records fear, a burnt-insulation smell and no recovered traces.
J. Chasseigne's LDLN account, translated in Flying Saucer Review 20:4, provides this sequence and the differing experiences in the two cars. It describes lights rather than a structured craft accompanying the figures. The plate combines phases under an explicit composite label.
