Case description
At approximately 5:50 p.m. on January 5, 1976, ten-year-old Jean-Claude Silvente reported an encounter in the La Morte area of Domène, Isère, France. He said he saw an unusual bell- or cone-shaped object in an overgrown vacant lot. Descriptions mention coloured lights or reflections and several thin landing supports, commonly given as five.
According to the child's account, a door opened and a very tall, blond, humanlike figure appeared. Its clothing was described as white or shiny, and a green mark was reportedly visible on a hand. The figure held its arms stiffly. Jean-Claude became frightened and ran away. A contemporary newspaper account says that, while sent to obtain milk the following day, he saw what he considered the same figure again. That sequence differs from compressed retellings that make the second sighting almost immediate.
Family members and another child also reported lights in the wider episode, but their observations should not be conflated with the boy's occupant claim. The gendarmerie collected reports, and the case is preserved in the official CNES/GEIPAN archive. GEIPAN's classification C reflects insufficient reliable information for a firm determination. That administrative record documents that reports were made; it does not confirm the figure, the craft's origin or a physical trace. The contemporary newspaper and official file provide complementary, partly differing accounts of the sequence.
