Case description
A little after 11 p.m. on 12 June 1977, a man identified as David left a hotel bar in Crystal Lake, Illinois. He told investigator Douwe Bosga that he had spent several hours discussing a recent layoff and had consumed approximately six or seven beers. Outside, three small beings approached from an alley about 30–35 feet away.
The figures were slightly over 4 feet tall, wearing greenish, somewhat metallic one-piece suits and bubble-like helmets. David then noticed a fourth identical figure on the ground near him. The three lifted it and supported it back toward the alley, its head remaining bowed. He remembered light-colored eyes, unusually large hands and feet, and an uncertain impression of three or four large fingers. He heard no speech and felt the surroundings had become unusually silent.
Bosga’s 2 February 1978 CUFOS report records David’s account, his earlier police report and the investigator’s favorable impression of his sincerity. It also clearly states that David saw no object or aerial lights. The fourth figure’s apparent injury was David’s interpretation; his drinking is relevant context, not a demonstrated explanation. Hypnosis was discussed as a possibility, but these described details were reported before any such proposed session.
