Case description
On the night of November 25, 1978, nineteen-year-old Pam Owens was returning from a friend's home near Trier, Germany, with her husband Chris and their twenty-month-old son Brian. Chris was an American serviceman stationed in Germany, and Pam was five months pregnant. At about 10:00 p.m., the family saw a large metallic oval object overhead, rotating and displaying a flashing red light underneath. Pam drove away quickly.
The journey normally took about half an hour, but they did not reach home until approximately 12:10 a.m. Pam later noticed a mark near her navel. The unexplained interval and the mark prompted further discussion of what had happened on the drive.
Under hypnosis, Pam recalled stopping the car and getting out with Chris while holding Brian. Her next recollection was of lying unable to move on a table in a small circular room lit by a yellowish light. She described two tall, bald figures with large heads, deeply set eyes, rough greenish skin and four long fingers. Their noses and mouths were small. Concerned about Chris and Brian, she received reassurance about them.
In this recalled sequence, the figures examined her pregnancy and inserted a needle above her navel. Pam felt nauseated and dizzy, then lost awareness. Her next memory was of standing beside the car holding Brian as the object departed. Four months later she gave birth to a daughter, Kelly, reported to be healthy. The onboard sequence was recalled during hypnosis; the family sighting, late arrival and mark were the events Pam had described outside those sessions.
